Magnet Theatre

Magnet Theatre is one of South Africa’s best known independent physical theatre company that has been operating in and outside of South Africa for the past 28 years. An award-winning company, we create innovative, highly skilled productions that engage with the current social and political landscape in Southern Africa.  Foregrounding the language of the body, we have created over 30 new South African pieces of theatre that have toured extensively in South Africa and internationally. Our longest running multi-award-winning production "Every Year, Every Day I Am Walking" has had 24 international tours. 

We run multi-layered educational programmes that are aimed at the transformation of young people’s lives and the theatre industry as a whole. Magnet Theatre believes that we all have a responsibility to develop a more just, free and peaceful society. We do it through combatting youth unemployment by teaching creativity, imagination and theatre-making skills and by empowering young people. 

We are housed at THE MAGNET THEATRE in Observatory, Cape Town with a 150-seat theatre. It is a training home for the youth development projects, a performance space for our productions and an administrative base for all our programmes.
