The Darling Wine Route

Since its inception in February 2004, the Darling wine route has grown immensely in popularity. It's less than an hour's drive from Cape Town and its warmth and hospitality coupled with wines of tremendous quality and value has placed it on the list of routes to visit when visiting the Cape. Wine tourism is continually being augmented with supporting facilities catering to visitors' requirements. Cloof offers daily tasting room lunches. Hilda's Kitchen, the restaurant at Groote Post, is open for lunch on Sundays from January 2007 and Darling Cellars now offer picnic baskets as well as a kiddies' play area. Ormonde's brand new state of the art cellar is in full production and wine tastings can now be arranged at Tukulu, surely one of the more scenic panoramas in the Cape.

To ensure that visitors are made aware of the number of arts offerings in Darling, the wine route has been renamed The Darling Wine and Arts Experience providing much more than just a wine experience. The quirky, creative nature of the village is mirrored with the thriving Darling wine scene and is hugely inspiring. There's Evita Bezuidenhout whose presence continues to inspire all who live in Darling with regular shows at the Perron a feature. Art galleries hold regular exhibitions throughout the year. Then there's the Voorkamer Festival scheduled for the first week of September. This unique cultural experience has already become a highlight in Capetonians' lives. Regular music festivals are held, often at the wineries. An outstanding museum, the !Kwa ttu San Centre, antique and gift stores all provide the visitor with an experience they'll long remember.
